In this post, we explore three of Columbia’s libraries on the Morningside Heights campus.   Columbia University’s campus is chock full of places to study, ranging from beautiful libraries to small study nooks. In addition to the libraries listed here,  below are some favorites. Burke Library Union Theological Seminary Located at Union Theological Seminary on 3041 Broadway The Burke Library. What you need to know:  Burke Library is housed in Union Theological Seminary   and is a seven minute walk from SIPA. The library is a rare combination of being one of the most elegant, and least crowded, libraries on campus. It’s extremely quiet and perfect if you need to focus (or take a nap!). When the weather is nice, you can find fellow students studying in the Seminary’s interior courtyard. What you didn’t know:  Burke Library has over 700,000 items and houses multiple special collections, including: the  Bonhoeffer Collection, the Gillett Collection of American History and Theology, the Missionary Research Collection, the Sacred Music Collection. Low Memorial Library Located at the Heart of Campus, right next to Alma Mater The Low Memorial Library Photo Credit: Wally Gobetz on Flickr. What you need to know: Low Library was completed in 1897 and served as Columbia’s main library until the early 1930s. Although its library days are over, Low plays an important role on campus. The rotunda is used to host a variety of ceremonies and events, ranging from the  Pulitzer Prize award ceremony to a study break  area for students during finals. The building houses both the offices of Columbia’s President and Provost. What you didn’t know: Structured after the Pantheon, some have claimed that Low Memorial Library’s dome is the largest freestanding granite dome in the United States. Thomas J. Watson Library of Business and Economics Located at Columbia Business School in Uris Hall on 3022 Broadway The Thomas J. Watson Library of Business and Economics. What you need to know:  Nestled in Columbia’s business school, the Thomas J. Watson Library of Business and Economics is an excellent study spot, particularly for SIPA students interested in resources related to finance and management. The library boasts over 400,000 books and approximately 1,000 journal titles related to business and finance, among many other business-related topics. What you didn’t know:  Watson Library has a variety of collections (particularly if youre interested in financial or economic history!).   These include disclosure microfiche that contain annual Reports to Stockholders, 10Ks, Prospectuses and Proxies for NYSE and ASE companies ranging back from 1969 to 1994. Once a leader is perceived as an honest person, it will be reflected on the followers’ honesty as well (Kouzes Posner, 2007). An honest leader when runs his/her organization ethically; in return the followers carry out practices with honesty and integrity, at the end this means that the customers are being treated honestly. In addition, honest leaders have more power over their followers than a dishonest. For example, if the followers believe and know that their leader has been honest all the way- in good and bad times: Firstly they will be willingly following him/her.Secondly, they will buy in his vision and will work towards achieving it with honesty too. Lastly, they will trust and support his/her decisions and will do their best to achieve the goals. Leaders should show honesty, even in situations if he/she is admitting mistakes as this will increase the leadership influence. True leaders consider the entire organization when taking decisions, rather than looking for their own benefits.Empathy and truly understanding others, is extremely an important part of gaining trust. Good example, of an honest leader is Lee Lacocca, he was honest with his employees when Chrysler was near-bankruptcy. He didn’t cheat on his employees by paying himself or selling his shares, rather he announced that he will pay himself a symbolic salary of only $1 for twelve months instead of $ 360 000. This ethical behavior had great influence on his followers and things were changed to better and taking the company to profitability (Iacocca, 1988: 242- as cited in the book by Forster 2009).On the other hand, if the leader is dishonest and yet the subordinates follow him willingly that means even these individuals are themselves dishonest or will lose the self-respect and will be perceived as dishonest by others surrounding them. If the officers of Enron had any integrity they would’ve been empathetic to the livelihood of others. Instead of lining their own pocket, they would’ve done what’s right if they had integrity. Although 2300 years ago our ancestors have known and practiced the core attributes of effective leaders, as the Greek philosopher Aristotle suggested that prospective leaders- having acquired self-awareness and wisdom- needed to develop additional three competencies: Ethos, Pathos, and logos. These are still relevant as it was, and will continue to be.However, the global world is requiring new leaders with new and unique combination of skills and personal attributes. All of the above mentioned skills (visionary, effective communicator, honest, motivational and inspirational) will remain important for leaders even after ten years from now; however, some of these skills might evolve by the speed of change, new technologies, smaller world, and the impact of advances made by women leaders g lobally and some of them might be seen more important in the future that it is now.Technology is affecting every aspect of our lives, including leadership skills. In a world where information travels faster than ever, leaders should be proactive to technology changes rather than reactive. Decision-making within a team not only takes longer, but also results in more extreme decisions as team members feel they are not individually accountable for the consequences (Gordon, 2002 p. 189). Moreover, individual knowledge is ignored to reach a unanimous decision. The money-laundering scandal was a result of the negligence from the management of the organization. The ASIC is investigating CBA for regulatory uncompliant behavior. It is evaluating if the organization has complied by the regular disclosure laws. The organization should also immediately alert the investors of any suspicious behavior. The ASIC committee suspected that the bank might have played some foul play and has not complied with the licensing obligations. The public and the media criticized the board of the bank regarding the money laundering allegations; however, Norak rejected the criticism. He stated that the organization is very large in size and therefore, they have developed several autonomous teams, which has to be managed by the investors and the regulators (Ryan, 2017). I began to explain what the Holy Ghost was and gave her scripture. I told her the evidence that she has the Holy Ghost is that she would speak in an unknown tongue; but no one could give her this but the Lord. She also wanted to know what she had to do in order to receive the Holy Ghost. I explained to her all she needed to do is just believe; she did not have tarrying around the altar as I once did. I told her Hallelujah is the highest praise if she wanted to do that she could or began to just thank the Lord for what he has already done in her life. The teenager began to say, â€Å"Hallelujah†. PART THREE – How did you conclude the conversation in order to follow up? We began to tarrying with the teenager and she finally received the gift of the Holy Ghost. The teenager realized that she was speaking in tongues and announced it to the church. We began to rejoice because another soul has been added to the kingdom; not so much the church in which so many people forget these days. She has not been baptized as of yet but she is waiting to do the next step. We are renting a building that does not have a pool but we will be baptizing her very soon at another facility. I had already read to her Acts 2:38 and some other scriptures explaining about the baptism. We gave her a welcome packet which included a brochure, calendar magnet, business cards and a postcard that have all of the church information in the packet. The following Sunday; she received a certificate giving her the date that she received the Holy Ghost so that she can remember that special date she was born again. The teenager also joined the church and has been coming faithfully in spite of the struggles that are going on her family life.
